Liebster Award!

Breakfast on Mars recently tagged me in her Liebster Award post! YAY!

Rules:

1) Post 11 facts about yourself.

2) Answer the questions the tagger has set for You.

3) Create 11 questions for the people You've tagged to answer.

4) Tag 11 people.

The Facts!

1.  I'm pretty geeky.  Comics, videogames, books... I love them all, and tons of different types.  My favorite comics are Batman related. Actually, my favorite anything would probably be Batman related.

2.  I love trees! One of those weird obsessions some people get, I guess.  They're powerful and gorgeous, what more can I say?

3.  I'm scared of open water.  A lot of that fear probably stems from my being unable to swim.  I'm fine in a pool... I can tread water and go a very short distance by flailing my limbs about, but that's about it.  When it comes to the ocean or a large lake... I'll stick to the sand.

4.  I'm allergic to dogs.  Haha, boring, I know... but coming up with these facts is proving to be very difficult.

5.  I love reading and am part of a bookclub.  It's just a small group of me and a few friends.  We meet, agree on books we'd like to read, then meet to talk about them once we're all finished.  Typical bookclubby stuff.

6.  I work 3 jobs and all of them involve the use of a computer, so I have to be very careful about how much of my leisure time I spend online.  Typing all day for work only to come home and put the same pressure on my wrists won't be good for them in the long run!  Plus it could be harmful for my back and arms, too.  It could effect almost anywhere I guess. I used to love playing WOW, but I really had to cutback on it to the point of totally stopping because it was too hard on my body.  Oi, I miss it! :'(

7.  I have a cat, her name is Shiva! She's named after the Final Fantasy summon. She's a tabby cat and is about 6 months old now.

8.  I have 7 middle names. It's a lot, I know. I'm quite used to it by now.  My drivers lisence is pretty much just my first name and then a jumble of letters that are middle names/initials because they couldn't fit them all.  When I have to fill out forms I get pretty strange looks, and some people are even rude about it when there is only a certain amount of space.

9.  I never watch TV.  I have Netflix and buy a lot of movies and seasons of TV shows that I watch but I actually can't stand sitting down for a scheduled program, full of commercials and advertisements, and watching it.  For one, I hate being constricted by the time, and for two, I just hate commercials.

10.  I'm a huge procrastinator.  When I was in school I always left assignments and homework to the last minute, to the point that I would even forget and have to do it the next morning (such a terrible habit).  Even today I always put things off. I have to send something in the mail? Oh, that can wait until Monday.  I need to do laundry? Well I guess I don't have to do it RIGHT now... I mean, somewhere I have those pants from when I was 16 that have the rip and still fit... kind of.

11.  I love fantasy and mythology. Elves, witches, fairies, vampires, nymphs, mermaids... Whether its artwork, writing, or anything else... The magic of it all intrigues me.  I love the idea of mythology, of stories being passed down through generations to teach and instil morals.

Now on to the questions that she made up!

  1. What article of clothing can you not live without?
I'm not very attached to much of my clothing, but I do LOVE my corset.  It's pretty simple, just a plain black underbust, steel boned corset... but it spices up any outfit, even just a t-shirt and jeans, and can instantly make me feel glamorous.
  2. What movie managed to really scare you?
As soon as I read this question all I could think about was the movie IT.  I watched it when I was a kid, maybe 10ish.  I wasn't supposed to be watching it... I think I snuck up one night and it was already in the VCR so I just pressed play.  I ended up crying and going into the bedroom with my mom, haha.
  3. What band was your first concert?
I'm pretty sure it was Soul Decision with my sister when I was 8 or 9. Hahahahaha thinking about that pop group makes me laugh.
  4. What is your favorite online store?
I'm not sure I can pick one.  Recently I placed and order with BlackMilk... I bought a pair of leggings and a swimsuit from their new collection but they haven't arrived yet. Other than that, I've never ordered clothes online.  I have bought jewelry from a couple Etsy shops.  I've only recently gotten into shopping online.
  5. Where is the farthest you've ever traveled?
Florida. I went to Orlando when I was 16. I live on the east coast of Canada, so it was quite a distance I guess.  It was my first and only time on a plane and I hated it, although I would love to do more traveling anyway.
  6. What is your favorite line from your favorite book and why?
“The gun slipped on Emily's temple, and he suddenly knew that if she killed herself, he would die. Maybe not immediately, maybe not with the same blinding pain, but it would happen. You couldn't live for very long without a heart.”
    - "The Pact", Jodi Picoult
I love this quote for lots of reasons.  The symbolism in the last line, both the literal and figurative meaning.  The heartbreak of the situation. Its a quote that has always stuck with me.
  7. Do you believe in ghosts, why or why not?
Part of me wants to.  My mother passed away when I was 16... It was fast and a total shock to my entire family. I also had an older brother that was in an accident before I was born, that I never had the chance to meet.  It would be nice to think that their spirits are still here with me, watching over me or whatever it is that ghosts do... but I can't.  The evidence isn't there.  Not for me, anyway.
  8. What is your favorite breakfast food?
    Pancakes. drooooool
  9. What was your favorite movie as a child?
The Brave Little Toaster, or anything Disney.
  10. If you were a villain what kind of automobile would you drive?
A motorbike perhaps, even through I am terrified of them.  My villain alter-ego should be a little more bad ass than the regular me though.
  11. If you could learn any language what would it be and why?
Finnish.  I wanted to learn it when I was younger and tried but it was too much to handle with school work and having a job.
  My 11 questions...

1.  What is your earliest childhood memory?
2.  What is something you have always wanted to do, but have never been brave enough?
3.  What was/is your favorite subject in school and why?
4.  How do you relax when you're feeling overwhelmed or stressed?
5.  What is one thing you love about yourself and why?
6.  If you had to describe yourself in 4 words, what words would you pick?
7.  When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
8.  In your opinion, what would a perfect world be like?
9.  If you had to choose between being blind, deaf, or mute, which would you choose and why?
10.  It's the zombie apocalypse - choose a weapon!
11.  Describe your dream home:

A cold wind blows, it puts a chill into her heart

Finally I have some spare time tonight to do some random things and just relax. Work wise, this week has been pretty busy.  Also, I just followed my own blog... is that weird? Haha.  Here are some random updates :)

My camera charger finally arrived! It made it here a few days ago, I charged up my battery and everything seems to be working fine. The package came with an extra battery, a car adapter for the charger, a camera case, and a strap.  All that for 20 dollars when the photography store wanted 60 dollars just for a charger... crazy!

The left is a terrible photo of my new triple forward helix piercing... All three were done at once.  I snapped the picture fresh out of the shop, so pardon my red ear and crappy face, haha.  Right now I just have the basic jewelry in, but my piercer placed a custom order from Anatometal for me today, so pretty soon I will have three lovely gems in there instead of bland metalness.  I already have a barbell from Anatometal in my other ear... hence the image on the right.  It's blurple anodized titanium with two lavender brilliant-cut stones and one cubic zirconia princess-cut stone in the middle.

THESE BOOKS!!!!  I originally read these in my mid-teens and loved them.  Unfortunately I had to move around a bit when I was an older teen because of some unforeseen family circumstances, and my hard copies of these novels (along with a lot of other things) got lost in the chaos.  Recently I decided to reread them and bought them for my ereader.  I am so glad I did.  I forgot how good these were.  The world Libba Bray creates in these books, both the real world and a place called The Realms, are flawless.  It is based in the 1800.  I don't want to give too much away... but if you are interested in 19th century England, suspense, and lots of magic and deceit, you should look into this trilogy! Mind you, they are "teen reads", but at (almost) 23 years old I am reading and enjoying them nonetheless. They're not my favorite novels EVER, but definitely my favorite novels ever that are based for a younger audience. Not to mention I am admittedly the type of person that does judge books by their covers, and aren't these covers totally ravishing? Even if I hadn't heard of the titles before, they would still catch my attention today.

What books are you guys reading? What's your favorite novel/series? Once I finish this trilogy I'll be in the market for something new, so I'd love to hear what you've liked!

Silly kitty! Get out of the cupboard!
Well, I'm off to work on this Liebster Award that Breakfast on Mars tagged me in! I was trying to come up with the 11 facts earlier but it is actually very difficult for me, haha.  I hope you guys are having a great week! Thanks for reading :)

I can feel my mind wandering again.

I have done absolutely nothing productive today. So far I've watched 5 episodes of the X-Files, ate some mini pizzas, a bag of chips, and spent way too much time on Tumblr. Ah, glorious Sundays.

I've bough a few things online recently.  This is rather new for me.  I haven't been a big online shopper for a couple reasons...

1. Online shopping is TOO EASY and I end up spending way more money than I would have in a store. For one reason or another it just doesn't feel like 'real' shopping to me because I don't have to hand over cash or scan a debit card.  And maybe not having the item in my possession immediately has something to do with that as well.
2. You never know who you can trust on the internet.  My friend had a terrible experience with Ebay and was ripped off quite badly by a seller.  I am certain this is rare but I tend to be overly cautious (read: paranoid) about things.

There are more reasons, but I don't want to ramble.  I've decided to try and get over this "fear" of online shopping... there have been so many beautiful things out there that I have drooled over and wished for, but I was simply too afraid to order them.  I don't think I am brave enough to buy clothes online yet, (the hassle I would have to endure if they didn't fit properly!) but you have to start somewhere, no?

So, I made an Etsy account.  My first couple purchases were Sailor Moon related.  One is a decal for my car window, it is the silhouettes of the 5 original Sailor Scouts.  The other is an image of the bow on the front of Serena's scout uniform that I can iron on to a shirt of my own! I love Sailor Moon and people were selling some great items but I didn't want to get too obsessive. I was proud that I was able to limit myself so well.

Also, I found a charger for my camera online that only cost me 20 dollars! Hopefully it will be arriving shortly, I made the order early last week. I'm looking forward to making some better posts in the near future.

I mentioned this in my first post, but I ordered some dread falls from Divinity Dreads.  They're based in Ontario, and their reviews are spectacular.  The dreads are totally customizable and 100% hand made.  The shop got in touch with me yesterday morning to let me know my falls are on their way! Canada Post estimates them to arrive on Tuesday. I'm so excited to play around with them. I have always wanted to do something wild with my hair... but unfortunately working at an office limits that quite drastically.  The dreads I ordered are black with some purple and blue transitioning ends.

Anyway, so much for not rambling.  Long post is long.

Do you have any tips on keeping yourself from spending too much money online? I would love to hear them if you do! I came thisclose to spending my entire paycheck on Etsy. Credit cards are both a blessing and a curse molded into thin, flimsy plastic.

Halloween Goodies

I went to Micheal's Crafts the other day and found that their Halloween stock is on shelves already! It made my week! They had a ton of victorian-looking candle holders, black candles, a ton of skull/bone decor, and other general Halloween goodies (spiders, bats, witches, etc.). I went there for supplies to make some necklaces and didn't want to spend too much money so I only bought some candle holders and a couple things to put in my car.

These are my new little car buddies. What do you think? I think they're adorable! They had plenty of different little creatures like this, and I had trouble picking only two! I'll definitely be back there soon to grab some more spooky things, though!

Discouragement.

I went shopping yesterday and bought a few pairs of lovely earrings.  This morning as I was taking them out of the packaging to hang them on my earring holder I though "Hey - This would be a great 'real' first post for my blog! A little haul!" I grabbed my camera and when I went to turn it on, it was dead.  It's been a couple months since I've used it so I wasn't surprised.

I tried hunting down the charger and I can't find it ANYWHERE.  I've had my camera for over a year and I haven't misplaced the charger... not even once.  Then I remembered that the last time my camera was used was when my sister borrowed it for her trip down south.  I immediately called her and asked if she still had the charger lying around, and she said she would look.

Not long after, she called back and said she couldn't find it and that she "distinctly remembers" giving it to me. I tore my house apart looking for the damn thing and it is not here.  I can't remember whether she gave it to me or not when she came back from the trip, so it is simply her word against mine... and if she distinctly remembers giving it back to me, I can't argue with that, can I?  I am so annoyed with myself for not noticing this sooner.  I called the camera store and they said it could cost 50 dollars or more, plus I would have to wait for it to be ordered in. Fifty plus dollars is a lot to spend on something that shouldn't have gone missing in the first place.

All in all, I am pretty discouraged with the fact that not only am I going to have to spend so much money unplanned but it will also impede with this blog.  I tried taking some photos with my phone but they're far too poor-quality to post here.  Hopefully I can make it to the mall tomorrow to place the order for a new charger.  Tomorrow is a holiday here, but I think the mall is open anyway... Oh well, I guess I'll find out.

Thanks for reading :)

Random 1

Hi! Thanks for stopping by!

I love alternative fashion and beauty, and figured instead of only "enjoying it" all alone I might as well share it and make it into a hobby! I don't really have much of a plan, but I think it will be fun nonetheless.

I ordered some synthetic dreads from Divinity Dreads today, after my failed attempt at making some a couple weeks back.  Wow, they were terrible... I am very excited for these though!  They cost a good chunk of money...  but mostly because I wanted them super long.  Maybe I will do a review?  lol.  I am posting this as if someone is going to read it and actually care what my dreads are like.... but that is half the fun when you have a blog, am I right???
